A Unique Supplement Combination That Promotes Weight Loss
Are you trying to lose weight, but can't get your appetite under control? To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you take in which can be difficult to achieve if you can't stay away from the refrigerator. The good news is a recent study showed that two natural supplements when used in combination can help to decrease appetite.
This study, which was published in the Journal Clinical Nutrition, showed that a combination of a green tea supplement and capsaicin, the ingredient that gives red chili peppers their heat, caused appetite to decrease and food intake to drop when it was given to twenty-seven subjects for a three week period. During the time the subjects received the combination of supplements, not only did their appetite decrease, but they took in fewer overall calories.
This isn't the first time a combination of capsaicin and green tea has been shown to decrease appetite and help promote weight loss. A study conducted in Singapore showed that a combination of green tea and capsaicin combined with essence of chicken was associated with a drop in body fat content after two weeks of use.
While it's unclear exactly why a combination of capsaicin and green tea decreases appetite and promotes fat loss, capsaicin has been shown to increase the rate of thermogenesis, the rate at which fat is burned, in animal studies. Green tea has also demonstrated thermogenic properties in both animal and human studies which is thought to be related to its high catechin content. In terms of the ability to decrease appetite, hot sauce and other spicy foods that contain capsaicin appear to be quite effective. Who doesn't feel full after they leave a Mexican restaurant?
Although you can buy capsaicin and green tea supplements at health foods stores, adding a little cayenne pepper containing capsaicin to your food and sipping on green tea at meals could help to decrease your appetite naturally. One study showed that people who added spicy foods to their diet consumed an average of two-hundred less calories during the day than those who didn't.
Instead of drinking high calorie soft drinks, substitute sugar-free green tea as your beverage of choice. Add hot peppers to your recipes and spice up your meals with Tabasco sauce to decrease your appetite and reduce your calorie intake. These are small steps you can take to help promote weight loss in a healthy manner. Plus, both green tea and capsaicin have other positive health benefits. It's a win-win situation!
